Non-Profit Partners
I believe the world can change, one relationship at a time. My vision for Modern RelationshXps is that as relationships become healthier and more fulfilling, there will an outpouring of love and generosity that will extend beyond those primary relationships.
One way this can be manifested is by giving to organizations and movements that can reach a larger or more diverse scope of people and issues that matter to us. I have identified four organizations that align with this vision. For each therapy session I host and teaching I lead, I will donate a portion of the proceeds to one of these causes, and the client gets to select which organization receives the donation.
Please take a look at these wonderful non-profits, and consider participating in your own special way. This is just one of the ways we can spread the love and make the world a better place.
PREEMPTIVE LOVE
(International: Addressing war & prejudice issues)
If you’re like me, you might feel like the world is more divided than ever. But I believe there is a way to heal what is tearing us apart,so that we can rise together.
PREEMPTIVE LOVE has been pursuing peace on the frontlines of war for over a decade. We’ve served in Iraq, Syria, the US, and beyond—providing relief to stop the spread of violence, creating jobs to reduce the risk of war, and building community to change the ideas that lead to war.
ONE TREE PLANTED
(International: Addressing climate crisis issue)
Since I was a child, trees have been a place of refuge for me. ONE TREE PLANTED is an environmental charity on a mission to make it simple for anyone to help the environment by planting trees! For every dollar donated, one tree is planted.
Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, help reduce stress and anxiety, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity. They also provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, are used in 25% of all medicines, and play a key role in capturing rainwater and reducing the risk of natural disasters like floods and landslides.
UNIVERSITY FOOD BANK
(Local: Addressing resource issues)
Our mission is to build a hunger-free Northeast Seattle by providing our neighbors with reliable access to healthy food and life-changing resources. For nearly four decades, the University District Food Bank has helped prevent hunger in Northeast Seattle neighborhoods. Each week, more than 1,300 different families receive the groceries they need to prepare nutritionally-balanced meals at home.
Housed around the corner from Modern RelationshXps, UNIVERSITY FOOD BANK includes 49 units of affordable housing operated by LIHI and YouthCare, a job skills training café operated by Street Bean, and an amazing rooftop garden where we grow produce for the food bank.
BOYS & GIRLS CLUB
(National: Addressing disadvantaged youth issues)
BOYS & GIRLS CLUB was my mother’s saving grace and home as a child. She grew up in the projects of Memphis, TN, the daughter of a working, single mother. The Club was the place my mom spoke most highly of from her childhood of hardship. It gave her a warm welcome, opportunities to learn and play, and a safe place to be after school.
THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB’S vision is to provide a world-class Club Experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who enters our doors, with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship, and living a healthy lifestyle. My mother exemplified the fulfillment of this vision and it’s my honor to continue to support their work.
